In the Lab we have some awesome turtles, <a href="http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v200/41/60/506791959/n506791959_661778_9291.jpg" class="lightview" rel="gallery['575']"">Rock and Roll. Ryan built a new tank for them so they can swim and be free. We need to share this with the world, so we build a web cam.

Being the Lab that we are this can’t be any old web cam. So Ryan and I grabbed some motors and parts around the lab to built a completely controllable camera. Via the Arduino you can pan and tilt the camera. I used Quicktime Broadcaster which was super easy and free. I had it up and running in about 5 minutes. The only hard part was getting the signal to reach the outside world from inside a corporate network. The next step is to have an interface for the motors and camera for people to control via a web browser. I will post more when we have it online. Get ready for Rock and Roll.

Here is a project that I have been working on. The interface is light and water that outputs altered sound. When you break the water streams the sampled sound plays back at different rates. The more you play with one stream the more elaborate the sound becomes.

View Project

Description

Using light and water Sound Fountain acts as a alternate interface to audio. The sampled audio is altered and plays back as one interacts with a stream of water. The more one plays with a stream the more elaborate the sound becomes.

So I finally got a bike. Ryan came to visit for the weekend and of-course we had to build something for our bikes. What you see is a LED mounted in the seat post. The circuit is from a dollar toy that we attached an LED to. All the wires and circuitry are hidden. The end result cam out nice, take a look or watch.

This is a project on how to crated a custom mounted LED light for a bike. The light was built from $1 toy telephone, blue LED, and a 9volt battery.

A simple digital sticker project.

Description

Using very simple electronic components the task was to make an ordinary “hello my name is:” sticker and make it digital. Some on the stickers would just buzz, others would playback audio files. The stickers needed to be inexpensive, I used small toy and watch batteries for power.

The stickers were placed in public spaces, you need to consider the placement. Elevator buttons, door knobs, etc. are great locations, they are places were you naturally interact. The stickers made you aware of your technological surroundings. They exposed the simplicity of a circuit and create a new form of street art.

Parts List

Hello my name is sticker.

        Red wire for connetions between
components. A simple button to
trigger the sound.

A sound chip with a recording.
You can rip one of these out of a
toy. You could also use a simple
piezo speaker.
