The current issue of Contagious Magazine did an article on Research and Development, which included the Lab. They talked about agencies creating an R&D initiative, a space/mentality for free thinking, fast prototyping, and experimentation. This idea of R&D will be part of the creative process.

Recently apple released a job posting for a User Interface Designer / Prototyper. It was amazing to see that required skills listed were Openframeworks and Processing. Evan a large company like Apple see the need for this new way of creative thinking.

I also noticed that the Magazine featured the Night Lights project. This is a piece I did with yesyesno in New Zealand a few months ago.

iPhoto Face Recognition

Just got the new iLife 09. It is so cool that iPhoto has face detection and recognition built in. Apple has giving the public an amazing array of tools to create content. Now they are finally figuring out new and innovative ways to organize that content. I wonder if they have incorporated openCV into iPhoto. What I really want to try the software with is identical twins. Will the app be able to tell the difference between the two people.

Apple Education Video

So the Apple video went live the other day, for the most part it was ok. Of course Apple some how managed to make me sound like a complete and utter nerd with my amazing comment: “Our homework is awesome!”. I may never live that one down, oh well. Indestructible iPod

This is my iPod; I’ve had it for about three years now. Let’s just say that this iPod has taken its share of falls. The other day tops them without a doubt. I’m riding my bike up 6th Ave late for class. I’m in the middle of the road, cause you can ride the fastest there. I’m listing to some good music, new stuff I just got. As I pass 11th street I see my iPod start to rise out of my pocket. Since my bike only has a front brake I could make any quick moves. I see the iPod shoot into the air and at that second said, “There it goes – done”. The iPod slams to the road and slides down the street. Remember that this is 6th Ave, one busy street. I start to pullover and see that a nice taxi just ran right over it. I say, “Ahhoo DONE!” I am dreading to go look at it. I see some lady trying to grab it, but I run and pick it up. I look at the screen and yes, the iPod was still playing, I could not believe it. There were really now dent and it was all still in one piece.

To think, this was the iPod that Apple recalled but I never sent it in. I have to say this is the indestructible iPod.

The Future

Apple announces the new iPhone. This piece of technology will set precedence for the future. The mulit-touch interface is outstanding, apple thought of everything. The phone in my mind is so unreal it may not be real; I wonder if it will pass the FCC.

Aperture Blows

Well I am going to state that Aperture Blows. It is the worst program I think Apple has ever put out. It is so slow and performs like a 90 year old man. Im running a dual 2.5 and it sucks. If anyone has suggestion or knowledge on why Aperture blows so hard. I think I’m waiting for Lightroom.

Update: Here is a bug, when you export photos your whole HD decides to stop and dedicate everything to exporting. Lame!

I guess I’ll do my write up on the new apple gear. It wasn’t just “one more thing”. The new iMacs are very cool, love the built in features (iSight). The remote is very cool, it would be fun to write some apps for it. The new iPod awesome, finally the video rumors can be put to rest. One comment though, iTunes should remain “iTunes”. Apple needs come out with a video version. Its going to get confusion in the music store. Apple

on a side note. I understand that all the money is in iTunes, but don’t forget about the rest. I haven’t seen any updates for other apps in a long time. iPhoto is struggling, it is a crashing machine. Don’t forget about us little ones. I’m not the only one that feels this way. Link

A Mac App that allows you to organize and categorize all of your belongings. Delicious Library is very well programed and designed. The bar code scanning is amazing you have to try it. (iSight required) The site is very clever and well presented. Delicious Monster put together a very impressive package.

OS Tiger

Tiger is sick, there are a ton of new features and bugs as well. Its great though everyone should get it so we can have more 4-way chats.

Jobs forgot to mention at the keynote that you need to have all the internet connections in the world to make the 4-way work properly. I got it to work, but users come in a little blurry. The requirements are unreal for people to actually host a chat, cool though.

So when is this amazing update going to happen. I want to know about this “home sync”. There is no documentation on it but It will fix this desktop to laptop syncing problem in life, I hope.
